We decided to go on a Saturday, left around 3, got there around 4, found out they close at 5. We weren't even half way through when we found out what time they closed so we had to rush through the last little bit but it was worth it. Josh works at Petco in the Marine section so he enjoys learning and watching the aquatic area. While I was really just wanting to see penguins and otters.
The first big exhibit was otters, and they did not disappoint with how cute they were. There were 3 of them and they were all boys who were having a great time chasing each other and wrestling. Even though I didn't learn this at the aquarium, I found out that when otter mates sleep they hold hands so that they don't float away from each other! HOW CUTE IS THAT! I believe they were definitely the cutest part of the day :)
While we were looking at an octopus maneuver it's way around it's tank the worker was telling us stories of how intelligent they really are. So much that there are videos of one unscrewing the lid to his tank and eating other fishes! CRAZY! With their previous octopus they could put a canvas with paint brushes on top of the tank and he would paint a picture with holes that they had placed in the lid. It was really cool to learn all of the interesting facts about them.
We then ran into what they are estimating to be a 90-100 year old lobster! I wish we would have taken a picture because it was HUGE! She told us that you wouldn't want to eat one that large or old because their meat would most likely taste rancid. So unlike beef they do not get better with age.
This is when we found out they were closing in about 15 minutes! So we made a quick glance at the other stops so we could see everything they had to offer.
Next stop Penguins. I don't know what it is about these cute birds that I love so much but they just make me smile. And no it was not Happy Feet that created a love for them. Even when we go to the Zoo I can't wait to see them. But I've always wanted to get a picture of them swimming. It's never happened. Either they don't want to get in the water or my camera isn't ready. One day it will be done, I know it. You can tell from this picture they had been splashing around with all the water there was, but we didn't get it. Instead we have them playing King of the Hill. In which this penguin is obviously winning.
The last stop was the Sting Rays. When I went to the aquarium in Denver I had my experience with touching them, it was good enough to last for the rest of my life. Jordan was really excited to touch them. So much that he put is arm in the water that he had previously gashed open while at work. Salt water sure felt good on that :)
There was one more place everyone else went but me, the snake area. No thanks, I've seen them and they are frightening, I will just look at the fun stuffed animals.
We had a great time and look forward to more double date experiences.
